Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us here.
August was our main holiday time in this small corner, and hubby, D, and I spent two very, very hot weeks cruising around parts of the Greek and Turkish coastlines and some of the islands.
We joined the ship at Marmaris in Turkey, and after a day at sea, we arrived at the port of Piraeus in Greece. Hubby and I took a boat trip along the Corinth Canal.
This is a man-made canal that links the Aegean and Ionian seas. These photos were taken from the bridge that spans the canal, followed by a few we took while on a small boat sailing through this quite narrow gap.The bridge in the photos is also a favourite spot for bungy jumping. We did see someone doing this while we were there, but it was not an activity any of us fancied joining in with!
Next port of call was Souda, Crete. We visited the beautiful Monastery Of Agia Triada. It is also famous for extensive and well cared for crops of grapes and olive trees.
Our visit also included a little wine tasting which was most enjoyable! 😀
A few more views as we were driven back to the cruise ship.
We have visited Santorini several times, and it really is a beautiful and picturesque place. The bluest of seas and white-painted buildings scatter the coastline.
Next stop was Kusadasi, Turkey. D and her friend visited Ephesus to see the ancient ruins of the Library of Celsus.
Hubby and I wandered around a Turkish shopping area, which was quite an experience. Unfortunately, we couldn't fit a beautiful Turkish rug in our suitcases. We did, however, sample the delights of Turkish coffee. It was lovely.
Another place we visited was Istanbul, Turkey. While the girls took a leisurely boat trip, hubby visited the famous Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. He ended the day with a walk in a spice market, Turkish style.
Rhodes was our last port of call on this holiday. Such a beautiful place to visit.
We were very glad of the shade here. The steps led up to the remains of a monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
We saw some unforgettable sunsets on board the ship every evening and have many memories to treasure of this year's summer holiday.
The newlyweds are also back from a three-and-a-half-week honeymoon, having visited Borneo, Bali, Singapore, and a few other places. We look forward to sharing the wedding and some places they visited next week.
Until then, have a good week.
B and D x
What a wonderful trip that must have been. Blue skies and seas, so lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic holiday. So many things to see and do and it certainly was blue skies and sea all the way.
DeleteBrilliant photo's, brilliant memories.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to choose photos to share as we had so many but hopefully these ones gave you a glimpse of the fun we had on holiday.
DeleteBlue seas and skies and lots of sun - it must have been a shock returning to Blighty.
ReplyDeleteYes it was very cold for us when we got back. Unfortunately shorts and sundresses have now been packed away until next time or we have a mini late heatwave!!
DeleteIt looks beautiful, you all visited some wonderful places. Shame you couldn't bring back a Turkish rug, how about some Turkish spices, don't they look vibrant. Looking forward to hearing about the wedding now.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo. We had a wonderful time both in Turkey and Greece. See you back next week for the wedding story and a few pictures x
DeleteHow wonderful a trip!! I know you had a great time!
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
Yes it was great. We are already planning a rather big adventure for next year. I'll reveal more details in the New Year :-)
DeleteLooks like a wonderful time was had by all. Great photos of all the places you visited - the Corinth canal looks very narrow, especially for bungy jumping, not something I would consider either:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosie. We visited lots of lovely places this year on holiday. The Corinth Canal is one way traffic at a time, so yes, it is narrow. I don't think anything could persuade me to jump of a high bridge on a piece of stretchy rope!
DeleteThat must have been a marvelous trip, fabulous photos!
ReplyDeleteIt was so good. Definitely our type of holiday. We do like to get out and about. None of us are beach people here.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful holiday. I love the thought of the spice Market.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cherie. We had a really good time.
DeleteIt looks like you enjoyed a wonderful trip, and your photographs are stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe approach to the monastery is so beautiful. X
Thank you, Jules. There were many beautiful places to see and that view up to the monastery was amazing. It also created some slightly cooling shade.
DeleteMany thanks for sharing your lovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteIt looks and sounds a good trip.
With the weather in the UK having turned that little bit cooler you must be missing the warmth of the sun!
Looking forward to reading about the wedding.
In the meantime, I wish you a good week.
All the best Jan
Hello Jan. Thank you for your kind comment about the photos. It is certainly cooler here than when we were away but I love coming home whatever the weather. Thinking of you and hope you are doing ok x
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip! Your photos are gorgeous! It sounds as if everyone had a wonderful trip. Your Turkish coffee looks delicious! Thank you for the kind comments over on my blog. I really appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julia. It was a fantastic two weeks in the sun. Enjoy the rest of your week.
DeleteOMG. What a stunning collection. Seriously cool. I love both of those tree shots too. I love trees. They make me happy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivy. Glad you liked the photos and especially ones with trees :-)
DeleteIt was a great holiday.
🎃
DeleteThanks for sharing your wonderful holiday photos with us. We holidayed in Santorini a few years back and loved it, the food was amazing as was the scenery and the people. I don't blame you for not partaking in bungy jumping, not something I would fancy doing either, ha ha
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maggie. Santorini was one of my favourite ports for all the same reasons as you. Bungy jumping is not on my 'Things to Do' list surprisingly !
DeleteEnjoy your weekend.
Oh my goodness - I could not walk on that bridge let alone buggy jump! Your photos have given us an amazing tour!
ReplyDeleteHello Carrie. So nice to meet a new blogging friend. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteI was ok on the bridge that I took the photos from but that's as far as it goes. The views were stunning though. Have a lovely weekend.
