Can You Do That In A Minute?

Hello and welcome to our blog. Thank you for visiting.

January can sometimes be a quiet time of the year as we reset our lives after the celebrations of December. In this small corner, we are trying a few new ideas to help us start and finish some projects: no real resolutions, but a few things to make our lives flow better.

*****

While we have never really been ones for New Year's Resolutions, we have started something called: "Do It In A Minute". Mum saw it on someone else's blog a few weeks ago - unfortunately, she can't remember which blog, so thank you, whoever you are. The general principle is that if you can complete a task in a minute, you should do that straight away, and I have taken to this idea like a duck to water.

I can't believe how effective it is as I am constantly doing those small tasks that I often keep putting off. Sometimes, I even do multiple tasks in a row.

My bedroom has never looked so tidy: the tea mug graveyard and floor-drobe have gone. Hopefully, it will stay that way!

I have also found a way to encourage the completion of some of my creative tasks. D had a large wooden box that she wasn't using, and I adopted it to put a few projects I am currently working on inside. The box is in our living room, so I can see it whenever I sit down in there. I plan to finish those projects and tasks before moving on to anything new. When the box is empty, I can start a new project. Anything too large for the box will have a reminder note instead.

This week, I made another felt owl in different colours, similar to the one I made at Christmas. I shall keep him out for a while, as it is still officially Winter, and he looks cosy in his red scarf. As you can see, there are a few projects in the box for me to get on with. Have you started anything new yet this year?

Whatever your plans are this week, D and I both wish you a great week.

  1. I like the project box. I dare not start anything new as I have too many unfinished things on the go - actually, NOT on the go as I have not done anything to them for weeks/months. I love the owl - he'd stay out all year in my house:-)

    1. I haven't taken anything out of that box yet today but there is a chance it might get opened later on. I do hope it encourages me to get on with a few things. Maybe I should get the other owl again so they can keep each other company :-)

  5. Amazing we are already two weeks into January says me :) That is a clever idea, do it in a minute. Mine I read once years ago is when tidying up, pick 5 items and either put them away or throw them out if you don’t need them. It works for me because after a few 5 item turns in each room, I build momentum and do more but I’m fine with 5 to start. It’s very rewarding to see things when they are tidy. The box idea is a good one too, a clever motivator. That’s a very cute felt owl. I love my felt Christmas ornaments. I haven’t started any projects, just happy to try and keep things tidy at the moment. You have a great week too. Always enjoy visiting.

    1. Your idea is another really good motivator, Denise. Owl's little white Christmas cousin may join him again so that they can enjoy sharing some pearls of wisdom together.

  7. It's so easy to keep putting off the small tasks, and they can really mount up. I haven't started anything new yet this year, I'm trying to finish off a couple of other things first.

  11. I have no New Year's resolutions for this year. I thought. But now it's mid-January, and I've embraced one after all: not a resolution, but simply a goal – to keep walking and try to reach 10 km. I walk twice a week, plus a 15-minute cleanup with an alarm. I set the alarm for 15 minutes and tidy up the room. You don't know how enjoyable that is. In such a short time, you can accomplish a lot.

I really enjoy your blog, including the owl. I'm going to follow you. 🚶‍♂️🎉

    1. Hello Aritha. Thank you for visiting this small corner.
Walking more is a really good goal to have and I hope you are able to keep it up all year. Setting an alarm for tidying would be a great motivator to get tidying too.
      Have a lovely weekend x

  12. I have been knitting a scarf as I like to keep busy with handiwork and watch the length of it grow. Crocheting blankets is another hobby. I love your owl.

    1. D is knitting a scarf as well at the moment. Her one is various shades of sea blues and greens. I would love to make another crochet blanket but I'm trying to be good and do a few other projects first.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend x
