Bread

Hello Friends.

Last week was an art and school work success story, and many items have now been recycled. However, I will frame the items below because they make me smile so much.

The box from the loft this week has been the photos, which will take a long time, but I shall do that in mini-steps. I want to create something special for D and C to treasure, so this project will involve more than just family photos. I'll let you know how that develops.

I attempted something new this week. Well, almost new. I can't remember the last time I made bread, so it must be long ago.

I didn't expect the yeast to rise as well as it did - almost escaping the bowl as it enjoyed the sunshine in our conservatory. I used a basic bread recipe for this first loaf-making session to see how it all worked, and was so pleased with the result. I shall make a few more loaves and then try another type of bread. It's slow steps, but I am having fun with breadmaking.

Hubby has been concreting at the bottom end of the garden in preparation for a small seating area. We can then sit and enjoy the wildlife around the pond. Everything is filling out and growing well—still no sign of slugs on the hostas either. Long may it continue!

There are still a few areas left for other plants, but I am taking my time to ensure I choose the right plant for the right space. It looks like another warm week here in this small corner, so no doubt there will be some hours pootling in the garden.

I hope you have a lovely week ahead and find things to make you smile and be happy. Take care, everyone.

  2. Oh no! Those slugs can be a real pain with hostas. I planted ours as close to the pond as possible, so the slugs have quite a journey to reach their gourmet meal. I wonder how long mine will stay intact this year. Thank you for your kind comment about the garden. Your garden is always beautiful to see too.

    1. The artwork will be perfect memories that everyone who visits can share. Just need to find the right frames. Bread making success is inspiring me to repeat the adventure.
I love that part of the garden too. Take care and have a good week.

    1. It is turning into a lovely tranquil place to sit and let the world go by. I may try making some more bread this week after my initial success.

  10. The garden has turned out so beautiful; every bit of effort was worth it.
Drinking coffee (or tea) in the garden—what could be nicer?
The bread looks fantastic. I bake sourdough bread from rye—I have a mill for the rye. My husband doesn't like any other kind of bread anymore, and I enjoy baking it.
Of the arts, I like the snake and the turtle :-))
    Hug and...
    Best wishes. Viola

Well done on your bread making, the loaves look good.

Wishing you a good week ahead, perhaps I'm being a bit of a spoil sport but I'm hoping for some rain ... everything is so dry.

    All the best Jan

Not a spoil sport at all - the ground needs a good soaking.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

    1. So kind of you, Denise. I did enjoy making the bread. I'll let you know about the photo project but it probably won't be until later in the year. I like to visit the pond area of the garden every day so it will be lovely to just down there and relax.

  13. I've still got some of Daniel and Eleanor's early artwork, some of the Christmas decorations they made in primary school too. It's hard to just throw it away when it brings back so many happy memories. Your bread looks delicious. I've got a breadmaker but I haven't used it for quite a while, it encourages me to eat more when I make my own, haha. It will be lovely having seating around the pond, I think that will be the perfect place to sit and while away the hours.

    1. We had a fun time looking through all the art and school books together and I did take more photos before letting go of the rest. We are all happy now with what remains. I am really pleased with the bread making so far, so I shall no doubt try making more very soon. Home made food is usually so much nicer than anything shop bought. As my dear hubby is retiring in the next few months, we shall both enjoy the tranquil spot at the bottom of the garden together.
Enjoy the rest of the week.

  14. I just bought some yeast packets last night. I've never made bread but have really been wanting to give it a try. Step one - buy yeast. Well, I got that far. I hope my results are even half as pretty as yours...and I will be pleased!

    1. I want to add a few more plants to the pond but I will take my time. A tiny water lily might be nice as well as more hostas too, if I can keep the slugs away. I'm trying to have interest down in that part of the garden for as long as possible. Even in Winter there are nice days and it would be good to enjoy the garden even then.
I'm very happy with the artwork we kept and look forward to displaying some of it on the walls. Our own personal gallery 😊

Just looked outside and there are a few grey clouds and spots of rain, so maybe another day.
Hope your week is going well.

  18. Your garden looks fantastic! I just recently planted a pollinator garden, but am having trouble keeping the rabbits from eating the new plants. Got my fingers crossed those nibbled on will produce flowers. Your bread looks sooooooo yummy, I can almost smell the aroma from here. I particularly like the blue hand, and the turtle pieces. Very nice.

    1. Hi Sandy. The kitchen did smell pretty wonderful when I took the bread out of the oven. The hand print is D's and she is my eldest. I can't believe she is in her 30's now. I hope you manage to keep those rabbits away from your plants and that you and the polinating insects are able to enjoy the flowers.
