Young Art

Hello friends.

This week, I wanted to share some very special items with you.

Boxes after boxes have been coming down from the loft over the last few months in the hope that they could be sorted through and cleared out.

This time it was the turn of some large boxes with all the children's primary school work. We divided the pile of books and papers into D's work and C's work, and slowly went through every scrap of work.

D decided what she wanted to keep, and C went through his stuff on Saturday afternoon. We have had a lot of good memories and laughter this week. Our adult young people didn't want to keep much, but I have kept a few early books and some artwork from both of them, which I couldn't let go of. I have a couple of items to frame, but these paintings were some of the first ones they did when they started school, just after their fourth birthdays.

The first two are by D, and the rest are by the artist known as C!

I can't remember the jumper, maybe it will be in an old photo when we look through that box.

Such a glamorous painting of me by my son. Jellyfish mummy. 😏

It has been such a fun week here. I hope you have found something to make you smile wherever you are and that you all enjoy some sunshine this week.

    1. It did bring back a lot of good memories. I'm glad that both our children were finally able to make decisions about what to keep and not just my choice. I have taken photos of a few things they didn't want and I still loved. The loft has a lot of space now. Nothing is going back up there again.

  5. What wonderful memories!
I’ve passed on most of my children’s offerings, some time ago. I’m now going through all the photos of days gone by. I hope this week is also fun for you! Sal 😁

    1. Going through photos is such a huge project. I still have mine to make a start on. So far I know where they are all stored - in the loft, under the spare bed and on the computer. I need a plan to get started!
I also need a few frames for some special pieces of artwork.
      Have a lovely week :-)

    1. After the dramatic cull of childrens art and school work, what remains are the really special things that I really treasure the most. Have a lovely week, Rosie.

  7. I am still in the era of children producing artwork, and I have actually kept very little. I figure they probably don't want hundreds of papers so I have kept only the most special. I hope I don't regret this! I love how you can see the progression of their skills over the years.

    1. You will probably be Ok with the few things you are keeping of your childrens work. Our children are in their 30's, so I have kept things for a long time in boxes in the loft. When they took a look they didn't want to keep much at all. It was just hard to take the first step. Now I'm glad to have done it.
      Have a lovely week.

    1. We spent a lovely few days going through it all. I think I found it harder to part with some things than my grown up children but we have some wonderful memories of those years.

  10. Wow, I'm amazed you have all that this many years later. My Mom wasn't a keeper, I tend not to be either. I think I have a scrap book of some stuff from my daughters younger years, but that's probably it. Sounds like you all had fun going through the memories.

    1. We only have a small(ish) pile of work left now which I am happy with and we had a lot of fun looking through everything. I think I am less of a keeper now than I was.

  11. Gosh that Thomas jumper must have been colourful!...lol... Aw, it' s so lovely going through the children's old things isn't it. If I start to do it I'm drawn down a rabbit hole of immense proportions, whether it's photos or paintings I can't give them up.

    1. I can't remember the jumper either. I do know that he had one very bright primary colours jumper maybe that was it. It was lovely to look back at the childrens early years.
I seem to be doing a lot of rabbit holing at the moment. Currently that is old family photos - our grandparents, great grandparents and siblings. Lots of photos that need sorting. Our son is very interested in the family tree so he will enjoy this project with us.

  12. I smiled all the way through, what treasures and thanks for sharing them! I have a few here that I could never part with. We are trying to clear things out this year and have made a good start. Tackling our basement will be a challenge! :)

    1. I'm glad these paintings made you smile today. We have been sorting the loft for quite a few years but we are almost there now. Good luck with your clearing, especially with the basement.

    1. It was a tough challenge but we are almost there and it feels good. The items we have kept mean a lot and will be treasured even more now. Memory boxes are a really good idea to keep those special life moments.

  15. Such a fun treat to see all of this. It is interesting. I find more and more the adult kiddos don't want much of it and the grown adults can't let it go. Then one day the roles will flip and the adult kiddos will save the stuff their kids make and then those kids won't want much of it. It's a funny and interesting cycle. Glad you kept what you loved. Would you ever frame them and hang them as art?

    1. I do have a couple of things that I intend to display and that both D and C are happy for me to frame. It might be a while longer before that happens though. Have a great weekend.
