Hello friends.
The weather has been much more changeable this week, and while there has been plenty of sunshine, we have also enjoyed cooling breezes and downpours of rain. Isn't British weather wonderful?
During the cooler days, I got out my current crochet blanket project and added a few more rows. I'm about halfway now, and I love the colourful brightness. This is how it looks, hanging on the washing line on a breezy and dry morning this week.
As the weather has been cooler in our small corner this week, I also made one of our favourite loaf cakes. A lemon drizzle cake always goes down well in our family. Unfortunately, it was disappearing very quickly this time around, and I only just remembered to take a quick photo before we had completely eaten it. A few more minutes, and it would have been just crumbs. 😊
Outside in the garden, we have been digging up potatoes. They are by far the best crop I have ever grown: good-sized potatoes and plenty of them. I'm digging a few each day and enjoying the taste of homegrown spuds with our dinners.
As I finish writing this, I can hear the rain hammering down outside, and we've had thunder and lightning this afternoon too. What will next week bring?
D has finished school until September and is now enjoying a well-earnt rest and some time to catch up on crafting, baking, and a few other things. Our mum and daughter cruise is also only three weeks away.
I'm looking forward to the next few weeks and hope that you have things to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Whatever your plans are, have fun and enjoy.
B and a rather sleepy D xx
There is nothing quite like the taste of those first home grown potatoes!
ReplyDeleteThey were delicious for lunch today and there are plenty more to dig up.
DeleteI love your blanket, the colours are vibrant and beautiful, perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the blanket both for the colours and the fact it is costing me nothing new with yarn. I also don't have to think too hard when I'm working on it. Happy days. 😊
DeleteAhhhh....I love potatoes! How lovely! Your crochet blanket is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I'm enjoying working with all the bright colours.
DeleteThere is something very satisfying about growing a few potatoes at home and eating them straight from the ground.
Your blanket looks gorgeous. I've been enjoying a bit of crochet myself. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. A gentle and repetitive piece of crochet that I am very much enjoying. I hope you are finding the same with your crochet too.
DeleteThat blanket is absolutely beautiful. Potatoes are popping up as volunteers all over my garden. I hope there's actually some spuds on the plants. It's a good year for tomatoes and yesterday I sowed a few more for a late crop.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cherie. You are so kind. 😊 I am loving my blanket and it is easy to pick up and just do a few rows when I feel like it. I can't believe how well the potatoes are doing this year and I hope you get lots from your own plants. My tomatoes are a bit slow but I can see lots of small fruits which I hope will grow bigger and ripen in time. Home grown produce is the best.
DeleteYour potatoes look wonderful and the crochet blanket looks cosy and colourful. Rain here too last night but gone today, for now anyway. Have a good week ahead:)
ReplyDeleteI think there will be a few showers this week - mostly welcome unless washing is hanging on the line. More tasty potatoes from the garden for tea tonight. 😊Maybe a little crochet while watching Tv as well. Enjoy your week, Rosie.
DeleteThe blanket is coming along beautifully, it's so colourful. If you manage to work on it during the cooler periods of summer it will be all ready to use once winter's here. Lemon drizzle is one of my favourite cakes, it's one which everyone here enjoys so it never lasts long when I make it. Enjoy those spuds, there's nothing quite like the taste of homegrown.
ReplyDeleteI can work on the blanket and snuggle underneath it at the same time. It is big enough to keep my legs warm now and by the time it is really needed it will be the perfect size.
DeleteLemon Drizzle is one of those perfect cakes which is why it gets eaten so quicklyby both our families.
Homegrown spuds for tea tonight.😊No cake unfortunately.
Delicious cake and potatoes! Your blanket looks so colourful and cosy. How nice to have a holiday to look forward to. Our weather looks a little unsettled, but that's fine by me - too much heat is overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteD is already planning some more baking now that she has finished school for the Summer. Hubby is looking forward to a Summer of cake and cookies.
DeleteI am looking forward to a week away with D in August, just chilling out together.
Some rain would be welcome at the moment though and it would mean I can carry on with a bit more of the blanket.
That's a gorgeous crochet blanket and the cake and potatoes look yummy! We have had hot, humid weather for a while now, lots of thunderstorms with heavy rain and flash flood warnings on top of that. I am trying to not think of August being the hottest month of the year :)
ReplyDeleteThank you , Denise . You are very kind with your comments. It is not as hot and sunny here at the moment but still very humid with the odd spot of drizzle. Hope that August will not be too uncomfortable for you.
DeleteYour lemon drizzle cake looks delicious, my dear mum used to enjoy baking them and they never stayed around long :)
ReplyDeleteI do like your crochet blanket, so bright and cheerful, the colours are amazing.
The way the weeks zoom by your holiday break with D will soon be here.
In the meantime enjoy your July days.
All the best Jan
The weeks are flying by and it won't be long before D and I go away on our cruise. I am very excited about it.
DeleteLemon Drizzle seems to be a favourite with lots of people maybe even more than a Victoria sponge these days. Mind you both disappear quickly here. 😊
The blanket is growing well now and I am very happy to be able to use yarn that I had left from other projects, making it a cheap as well as colourful pattern to work on.
Wishing you well for the rest of the week.
A beautiful rainbow hanging in the breeze!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely description of my blanket.
DeleteLemon drizzle cakes sounds perfect....well, on any day but especially on a really rainy day! I know why it was disappearing quickly. I need to look for a recipe for that one! I love your blanket. My friends in our crochet group are currently making baby blankets for a missions trip to Kenya. They were asked to make brightly colored ones:) The brighter the better! I can see that those bright colors do make you smile!!:)
ReplyDeleteThe blankets your friends are making for the Kenya mission trip will be perfect in bright colours. I'm sure the new mums will be smiling as they hold their babies wrapped in these gifts of love.
DeleteLemon Drizzle last week. This week has been triple chocolate muffins and we are very much enjoying those too.
I hope this week is turning out brighter for you, Jennifer x
Gorgeous colours in your blanket and beautiful neat crochet.. I'm very partial to a piece of lemon drizzle cake myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chris you are so kind. The crochet makes me happy and I find I can relax and watch tv at the same time. As it is all in rows, if I make a mistake, which does happen, it's not such a pain to undo like knitting. Lemon drizzle does seem to be a favourite cake with lots of people and rightly so.
DeleteHope all is well in your own small corner.
Lovely blanket! Lovely colours! I tend to leave my crocheting until the winter months and I’m not as good as you at it! We had Lemon drizzle cake last week…lovely. Have a good day! 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sal. Once I got the hang of the stitches, this is probably the easiest thing I have crocheted.
DeleteLemon drizzle is such a simple yet vey delicious cake. Hope you enjoyed your one as much as we did. Enjoy the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Me too on the bright yarn. Crazy fun.
