Hello friends.
Monday started a lot more watery than I would have liked. I had checked the weather forecast, which suggested dry weather until tea time. Trying to stay ahead of the game, I put the washing machine on with the plan of getting it all dry by the afternoon. When I went to check that the cycle had finished, I was greeted by a swimming pool's worth of water all over the floor from a leaking machine.
Aaah!
Not what I had in mind.
I mopped up the mess and checked the filter, which seemed fine. I did a further rinse cycle, and everything was fine. Fortunately, the washing machine is located in the garage, which is lower than the rest of the house; otherwise, it could have been much worse. Must have been the washing machine gremlin at work that day.
Still, the sun was shining and I had super clean washing to peg out. Halfway along the line, the sun vanished, and the heavens opened - mad dash to get everything back inside again. By the end of the day, everything was dry, but I didn't feel the urge to wash clothes for the next few days.
The rest of the week has been very pleasant and chilled out for us. D has been unwinding from the stresses of work and enjoying her freedom, which of course has involved baking. Her first baking of the holidays was triple chocolate muffins. By the time you read this, undoubtedly they will all be gone.
Friday morning, D was again playing in the kitchen, but this time making a savoury delight for our taste buds. There were cheese and bacon muffins, and they were so delicious. I think they may make a return for breakfast on some mornings!
After enjoying all this wonderful baking, my husband and I have started a project that has long been overdue - redecorating our living room. As the space is quite large, we are attempting to do the work in two halves. At the far end of the room, we have stripped the paper from the walls and at least now we can see the bare plaster and anything that needs repairing. I'm sure hubby will enjoy painting walls and laying laminate floors in the early days of his retirement. I will keep you posted on the progress.
D and I both hope you have a great week ahead, whatever your plans may be. Meanwhile, we will be counting down to our holiday together in August.
Take care
B and D x
I am always sweet, but your breakfast muffins sound great as well. Good luck with the decorating, we can relax here, we have nothing more to do this year, and we will get someone in to redo our wooden floors.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would enjoy a savoury muffin but they are delicious, especially warm from the oven. We have finished taking the paper off the walls for now and are concentrating on filling cracks and dealing with blown plaster. We may get as far as a first coat of emulsion base but that will probably be it until late Autumn, as we have a full schedule coming up. I can live with that though.
DeleteYour baked goods look divine! I bet they would be perfect for your tea time! Your living room project sounds like fun, but it is good that you are cutting the work into halves. No sense of tiring yourselves out.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing. :)
Hello Linda. Breakfast, lunch, tea or indeed any time - D's baking is always appreciated. The lounge project could take a while but we are happy to take our time and work on it together. Have a lovely week.
DeleteThose muffins look so good!
ReplyDeleteWarmed and straight from the oven, they are indeed delicious.
DeleteBoth sweet and savoury muffins look tasty, it would be hard to choose. You too had a watery Monday, glad all was sorted in the end. We are still dealing with our watery problem - new roof being fitted, one side open to the elements, terrific downpour, rain water running all over from the light fittings. It's a long story, re-plastering and painting still being done. Good luck with your decorating:)
ReplyDeleteOh no, Rosie! Your Monday makes mine pale into the background. I do hope things get sorted quickly - that was a lot of damage to deal with. Willl be sending warm drying out thoughts your way this week.
DeleteThank you, nearly back to normal now:)
DeleteCheese and bacon muffins sound mouthwateringly good. Good luck with the decorating!
ReplyDeleteWe are going to take the decorating slowly and just put up with the mess. It will be worth it in the end.
DeleteCheese and bacon muffins warmed are amazing, and I will be adding them to our breakfast menu more often.
Don't you just hate it when the washing machine gremlin strikes!
ReplyDeleteI think both the sweet and the savoury muffins look tasty.
I wish you well, and good luck, with redecorating your living room.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
Fortunately thr gremlin went away smartish. It was not welcome here.
DeleteWalls have all been cleared now although there are a few minor repairs to deal with before we can start painting. Slow and steady is how we are working.
I do love D's muffins and would find it hard to choose between the two as well.
Hope the week is good to you too.
Cheese and bacon for me please!!
ReplyDeleteThey make a lovely change from the usual sweet bakes. Great for our breakfast too.
DeleteCheese and bacon for Tony and I. I'll be watching the post for them. Two each should be plenty for us ☺. X
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting to see arrive through the post. The recipe D uses is from Jane's Patisserie.com. Easy peasy recipe.
DeleteI don't think I've ever had a savory muffin before, but now I'm thinking that I'm missing out! I might need to do some baking this weekend to make both savory and sweet muffins.
ReplyDeleteHello Alex. Thank you for visiting and leaving your comment. I hope you enjoy making muffins both sweet and savoury. I think we all tend to think sweet muffins first of all, but savoury ones are so nice too. I'm a big fan of them now. Enjoy the rest of your week.
DeleteI think those savoury muffins sound delicious! Hope your washing machine is now behaving. Ours too is on a concrete floor in a garage. Always the best place for disasters! B x
ReplyDeleteWe have frozen a few of the muffins to use later but I still don't think they will last too long .
DeleteThe washing machine seems fine now but I am really glad that it was in the garage which is slightly lower than the rest of the house otherwise there might have been a lot of tears to add to the already watery area. Disaster averted.
Good luck with redecorating the living room. Tackling it in halves is a smart way to manage a large space. Your husband will certainly be busy in his early retirement with all that painting and laminate flooring.
ReplyDeleteWe have got back to bare plaster and are filling any small cracks to make a flat surface. As we are all ready for holidays very soon work will be on hold for a month or two. I have plenty of jobs lined up for hubby to tackle after retirement besides the decorating, but also some fun time getting out and about together.
DeleteOne of each for me please, I'm greedy :-p I hope there haven't been any more issues with your washing machine, and that the decorating is going well. I know some people redecorate regularly but that's not us, I just can't stand all the upheaval so I tend to leave each room as long as I possibly can.
ReplyDeleteIt was really hard to choose a favourite muffin, they are both so delicious. Washing machine is behaving better now fortunately, but it was a bit of a surprise at the time. Our living room hasn't been properly decorated in over 20 years so it really was needing doing. We will be taking things steady and slowly as we are doing the job ourselves. I hope you are enjoying the time looking after Jack. Take care and have a lovely weekend.
DeleteOhhhh, I love me a good bake or two. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteHello Ivy. We have have some great baking times lately. 😊
DeleteBaking rocks!
DeleteOh those look delicious! If only these iPads/computers could transfer the aroma of baking :) D made some great looking muffins, nice to have savory and sweet ones. Oh no, sorry about your washing machine leak. It makes such a mess and I know that from our own experiences. Good luck with your decorating and hope it all goes smoothly. Wishing you all a very happy new month.
ReplyDeleteNow that would be something to ponder on. Although I'm not sure I would want the smell of any baking disasters to linger as well.
DeleteD is pleased that you liked the sound of her muffins.
The washing machine is fine now but it has has a stern talking to about a possible replacement. 😊
Happy August to you too, Denise.
Hi Beverley, you don't need to worry about the washing machine gremlin in your house anymore. It is trying to settle into our house on the other side of the world! Luckily, we only had a small leak leaving a puddle below the door of the washing machine and the front of the machine was wet. Mum did another wash today and there was no sign of any leak luckily. I think we will need to get it serviced/seals changed sighs. Redecorating your living room sounds exciting. Have you chosen a new colour scheme? Both sweet and savoury muffins are delicious to me, but I was sold on the "triple" chocolate ones. Now I need to find some chocolate to eat lol. Hugs, Rose xxx
ReplyDeleteHello Rose. That washing machine gremlin is a bit of a pesky monster. I'm glad it didn't stop at your place long either. The decorating might take a while, but at least we have started and there is an incentive to get it finished before Christmas. Chocolate is always a winner in this house but then we love anything D bakes. Hope you found some chocolate to enjoy. Happy August days to you x 😊
DeleteOh no! I'm sorry to read about your washing machine gremlins. Thank goodness they didn't cause too much damage.
ReplyDeleteSweet for me please. Those muffins look delicious. X
Fortunately those gremlins have now disappeared after wreaking their chaos. I'll let D know that you favour the sweet muffins. Have a great week x
