Out With the Old and In With the New

Hello to you all for a final time in 2025.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas, however you celebrated the day. Here in this small corner, we had a wonderful time which was quieter, less busy and more relaxed than we have had for a long time. I put that down to being Christmas-ready much earlier, but also limiting what we were able to do in the time, whether that was baking or crafting.

Just before Christmas, our family visited Worcester Cathedral to see their Christmas tree festival. It was a fantastic display with many wonderfully decorated trees. Children, charities and other organisations decorated trees. Each tree was personal and decorated beautifully. Most were based on a traditional tree shape, but some people made theirs from wood battens and other household objects. We also saw a tree made from different-coloured strips of light and a tiered wine bottle tree, complete with a very large champagne bottle on top. Here are just a few of the trees we saw.

Back at home, D and I did manage a little Christmas crafting together. We found some ceramic baubles lurking in a cupboard and covered them with some pretty robin paper napkins.

I also made a batch of chutney with my helpful hubby doing much of the chopping of the fruit and veg. He is becoming a man of new talents since his retirement!

And so as the old year ends and a new one begins, D and I wish you every happiness and good health for 2026. May it be a good year for all of us.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE

  2. I love the patchwork quilt. The different Christmas tree designs are absolutely wonderful; it's so much fun to see.
We also have an exhibition of Christmas trees in our folk art museum... that's where I got the idea for the paper star which I folded from tea bags.
Warmest regards to the three of you.
All the best for the new year!

    1. The Christmas tree festivals are fun to visit and there are some very clever designs. One of the trees we saw also had decorations made entirely from paper.
Hubby, D and myself send our very best wishes to you and your family for the New Year.

    1. It has been a surprisingly relaxed Christmas this year. Early planning and knowing our limitations has made a big difference and one I intend to repeat next time. The tree festival was a fun and inspiring visit with lots of lights, sparkle and good ideas for alternate Christmas tree decorations.
Best of everything wished for you in 2026 x

    1. We enjoyed seeing the Christmas trees very much and plan to visit them and maybe a few others at the end of this year. The robins are all safely tucked away in our Christmas boxes but they were a fun project, quick and simple. We have a few robins who visit us in the garden and it is always a pleasure to see them. Good health and happy days in 2026 to you, Maggie.

  10. Aren't these the most wonderful decorations? Such a lovely post, I enjoyed all the Christmas trees and those robin ornaments you and D made are exquisite! Clever of you to use a paper napkin. Sweet of hubby to help with the chutney making too. As you know by now, I spent many happy weekends in Worcester with my sister. It's a lovely place to shop too. Wishing you all a Very Happy and Healthy New Year, may it hold nothing but joy.

    1. Hello Denise. Thank you for your kind words at the start of this new year. The trees were lovely and I have a few ideas to try out on our own tree in December. For the robin decorations we split the two layers of the napkin to make it fit more easily. It was a bit fiddly with thin paper and the glue but we were pleased with the result. There are some lovely napkins that could be used to decorate baubles and they are cheaper than the decoupage paper you can buy. Hubby seemed to enjoy helping make the chutney and it did save a lot of chopping time for me. Glad you enjoyed memories of Worcester and times with your sister. It is our closest cathedral city.
Good health and happy days to you in 2026, Denise.
