Hello everyone, and thank you for calling in to visit this small corner. It is good to know you dropped by, whether you comment or just read. D and I are glad you are here.
I hope that you are enjoying your weekend and that you find time to relax and enjoy the things that make you happy.
Today had been mostly dry, although the rain returned this evening.
After a bout of cold germs that have been lurking around for a week or two, I have been looking for some brightness and colour to enjoy. This morning, I ventured into the garden and was glad to see the first signs of new growth with bright green shoots emerging from the ground. I spotted the bright white of the snowdrops first. I have just bought some bulbs in bloom so they can be planted to join the rest of the snowdrops. In a shady corner, I also found my lovely hellebore. I have had this plant for a few years, and it seems as tough as old boots, surviving the extremes of snow, rain, storms, and heatwaves. It has not quite opened its flowers, but they will be coming, and such a lovely colour to look forward to.
Back in the house, I had another lovely surprise this weekend. The amaryllis I thought wouldn't achieve anything this year has two beautiful buds. I can't wait to see the flowers' colours very soon.
As the weather has been quite wet this week, I have been enjoying some indoor colour and have been working on my crochet blanket. It is so bright and colourful, and I am enjoying the steady progress. I have many more rows to, but everything is from my yarn stash and has cost me nothing to make—definitely something to smile about.
The temperature blanket I made a few years ago is also in good use during these colder months, and it is very cosy.
Finally, this week, my doll's house found a new home in the units we recently painted. Our son came and gave hubby a hand with moving it, as it is very heavy. I shall give it a good Spring clean, then do some more work on the inside so I can continue its story. It has been a while since I posted about this miniature house.
Have a lovely week, everyone, and stay warm and safe.

Your hellebore is beautiful and snowdrops are always a delight, though they won't grow in my garden. Your house is beautiful - and large!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Yes, the house is very large but it looks better in its new home.
ReplyDeleteI have more snowdrops to plant at the bottom of the garden and they seem to have survived quite well. I'm hoping they will start to spread if they are happy there. I can't wait for the hellebore to be fully in flower and the amaryllis is unfurling beautifully too.
Take care of yourself this week.
Nothing beats the first shoots of the new year, so much hope there, our snowdrops are beginning to form. Amaryllis bulbs here grow well the first year sadly not the following years.
ReplyDeleteI love to see those first snowdrops appear from the ground indicating that more good things will be growing again before too long. The amaryllis was so small and I didn't expect any flowers. Never say never comes to mind. I was watching an old Gardeners World episode about these bulbs - when to feed, keeping them in the dark - which I have not done before. It would be good if they would flower agan next year. For now I shall stay positively optimistic. 😊
DeleteEverything looks amazing. Beautiful. You have a lovely home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda for your kind words and support.
DeleteMy snowdrops are simi;ar to yours. I love it when they are fully out and look like little patches of snow. He;;ebores are such brilliant plants, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThey seem such delicate plants and yet they burst through the harshest of Winter days to bring hope of new Spring growth. The hellebores are lovely too and I would love to add a few more each year. They are a lovely flower to cheer us in these grey days of January. Enjoy the plants in your garden at this moment.
DeleteLovely to see your snowdrops and hellebores.
ReplyDeleteYour amaryllis is looking good too.
Your crochet blanket and temperature blanket are both so wonderfully colourful.
Your dolls house looks very happy on its new home base units.
Have a good week, I can't believe it will be the last one of January!
All the best Jan
I am really happy with the amaryllis. The petals look like they have been shaded with a coloured crayon as they open.
DeleteThe blanket is cosy to work on in the evening especially if it is a bit cold. I love all the colours.
Hubby is currently working on a few alterations to the lower front of the house but it is in a much better place in the living room.
January seems to have suddenly rushed towards the finishing line to hand the baton to February. A few days still to go but I wonder what the new month will bring.
It's lovely to see new growth emerging, a sign that spring isn't too far off now, I'm beginning to see the hours of daylight lengthening too, a joy to behold. Your crochet is such a happy sight, all those bright colours. I'm working on getting a crochet blanket finished at the moment, I'm joining the squares together and it's lovely to sit under it on these cold days. I enjoyed the stories from your doll's house, I look forward to them continuing.
ReplyDeleteYes, the slowly lengthening days make Spring seem not so far away. The blanket is giving me a lot of pleasure at the moment. Wouldn't it be fun to have a garden with all those colours. I agree it is good to have the blanket to keep our knees warm while we work. I look forward to seeing your blanket when it is finished. I have a few more things to finish in the next dolls house room and then I can share the next story with you.
DeleteHave a lovely week.
Lovely to see the snowdrops and hellebores also your colourful blankets. Your Doll's house looks good in it's new place:)
ReplyDeleteI think we are all craving a little bit of colour at this time of year. Late Winter and early Spring blooms are very welcome aren't they. I'm very happy with where the dolls house is now and have almost finished the next room to display. The crochet blanket is something I enjoy working on slowly in the evening as the colours grow stripe by stripe.
DeleteEnjoy the rest of your week, Rosie.
I LOVE that yarn and I don't know if I've ever seen snow drops before. They are lovely. Just so pretty to look at.
ReplyDeleteSnowdrops seem so fragile but they are really tough. They are the first flowers to appear in January in my garden.
DeleteI think there are 18 different colours in the crochet blanket. I'm enjoying the bright colours.
Wow was your amaryllis from a previous year, I've never been able to get them to flower a second year,
ReplyDeleteNo. I bought this bulb in December. The bulb was very small and I wasn't expecting much from it. What a lovely surprise when it started to bloom. It would be good to try and get it to reflower next year but I've never managed to do that so far. I'll keep trying though.
DeleteYour blankets look gorgeous, Beverley. And it's always lovely to see snowdrops pushing up through the earth, at this time of year. Spring won't be too long now. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. I'm enjoying working on the blanket again. I love all the colours.
DeleteSnowdrops are the bringers of hope for a colourful year ahead. So dainty and yet so tough and resilient. I'm looking forward to Spring.
You do such pretty crocheting. So colorful and cheery! Love those snowdrops! Lovely hellebore! I have one too in the front patch. Your dollhouse is certainly a splendid one. I look forward to seeing more of it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise. I think that any kind of colour is good at this time of year, whether that is inside crafting or enjoying the first flowers in the garden. I'm just finishing off a few things in the kitchen of the dollhouse and then I can show you and tell a little more of the story behind the room. Happy February to you x
