Hello to you all.
Thank you for joining me here today. I am so grateful to D for looking after the blog while I was battling the germ bugs that were still hanging around. I feel much better now, although I still have a cough.
So, what have I been up to this week?
The crochet blanket gets brighter by the day, and I enjoy the gentle rhythm of the stitches while watching 'Midsomer Murders' on television. I still have a long way to go, but there is no rush to finish.
Wednesday was a beautiful day here, so I ventured into the garden to clear my lungs and start some gentle tidying in the woodland part of our garden. I cleared a small area where the Hellebore and Hazel are planted, along with the twisted Hazel. I have removed some weeds and left the self-planted ivy to scrabble across the ground. The soggy fern leaves have been cut back, leaving just enough to protect the new fronds emerging this year. I also replanted a holly that had been a free seedling from the birds a few years ago.
Since then, hubby and I have made a short trip to Essex to visit family, stopping overnight near St Albans. While there, we visited the Verulamium Roman Museum. There were many exhibits of everyday Roman life and some historical background to the area. I enjoyed seeing all the mosaics and wall paintings - all those tiny pieces fitting together to make wonderful pictures. Seeing a group of schoolchildren enjoying visiting the museum was also lovely. They were so excited but well-behaved.
I was also happy to be classed as a 60+ concession, as our entrance tickets were nearly half the regular price. Well worth the visit!
😊
We also managed to visit St Albans Cathedral, but I will show more of these pictures next time.
After a rather up-and-down week, I'm looking forward to a more settled new week. I hope you all have a great week, whatever you have planned.

I'm glad that you're feeling much better now, Beverley. I'm currently sitting here trying to decide whether or not I have a cold virus simmering. It's that time of year.
ReplyDeleteThose cookie bars look delicious. Xx
Good morning Jules. It is always good to hear from you. I am feeling much better today although the cough is still lingering. I do hope the virus is not visiting you this week. Those germs are such unwelcome visitors for all of us. Surprisingly we still have a few pieces of the cookie bars left but that might be because we have been away. They will soon get polished off now we are all home. Maybe D will make some more very soon.
DeleteTake care of yourself .

Glad to see you back and that you feel much better. coughs do linger don't they? Great to get time in the garden and also a couple of days away. The cookie bars look very tasty. Have a good week:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosie. I'm coughing much less today so am hoping the bad germs are finally on the way out. I was out in the garden with hubby this afternoon doing a few chopping back tasks and the sun was lovely for a while. I think the overnight away trip was just the right thing for me especially as I hadn't been to St Albans before. Cookie bars - what more can I say!
DeleteHave a good start to February and enjoy the sunshine when it appears.
It's brilliant to have reduce entry fee's, we always ask. These bugs are not nice this year, glad you are on the mend and hope the few left don't linger too long.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marlene. I am shoving those bugs out of the door as quickly as I can- they are not welcome here at all, ever!
DeleteIt was good to get away even for one night and visit somewhere new and I shall be keeping a look out for those concessions now as it does make a difference.
Glad you are feeling better. It sounds as though you might have suffered from pneumonia? I is certainly taaking me weeks to fully recover from it. My Dr says that rest is the best thing, but I do want to get into my garden and do a little work.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better too. It's been a rough start to the year for both of us. I shall now be positive and look ahead to all February has to offer. The short time that I was outside in the garden made me feel so much better and I'm sure you will be able to get out in your garden very soon. Take care x
DeleteSorry about the cough holding on but soooo glad that you're feeling better. Crocheting rocks! I have to run out this week to get another bit of yarn to go with something else I'm working on. So fun. Love that you got a deep discount. Photos are fun to see. Here's to a wonderful week. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ivy. Feeling much better today. The blanket is using up lots of my yarn from previous projects so very cheap as well as fun to make. I don't often think about my age but a discount is a discount after all :-)
DeleteHave a great week x
Love that you're using up the yarn. That's the best. True, I agree. A discount is a discount. Very cool.
DeleteGood to hear that you're feeling better. The gardens are coming to life now and it will soon be a sprint to keep up with them.
ReplyDeleteThe mosaics are wonderful - it must have been such a thrill when archaeologists discovered them.
Thank you,Janice. It feels like the garden is just catching its breath before everything takes off at speed in a few weeks time. I'm going to try and get outside as often as I can now even if just for a short time to get things ready for the Spring rush. The mosaics were stunning to see and with so much detail too. It always amazes me when seeing some of these things to think how our ancesters crafted and used these items found by archaeologists.
DeleteHave a good week.
So pleased you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking good. I do enjoy seeing hellebores, their flowers bring some lovely colour to the garden.
It looks like a lovely visit to St Albans I enjoyed seeing your photographs.
Enjoy this first week of February.
All the best Jan
Thank you,Jan. I'm going outside in the garden shortly to do some tidying but also to see what is new in the garden.
DeleteSt Albans Cathedral was beautiful and I enjoyed finding out about the history. Maybe a longer stay next time as I'm sure there is plenty more to explore in the area.
Happy February to you x
Glad to hear that you are feeling better Beverley, there are lots of cold virus about at the moment. Those cookie bars look delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, those nasty germs are definitely on the run now.
DeleteD's cookie bars were delicious and they are now a family favourite.
Glad you're feeling better, there's so many germs around at this time of year and they do seem to linger once they've taken hold. The cookie dough bars look delicious. I got a Jane's Patisserie book for Christmas but haven't made anything from it yet.
ReplyDeleteHello Jo. The cookie dough bars are delicious. D has all four of Jane's books and uses them all the time. I hope you enjoy whichever book you have. Enjoy the rest of your week x
DeleteIt's so nice that you're feeling better Beverley and the cookie dough cake looks wonderful... we're missing the sun today... I'll go into the kitchen and bake little cakes, delicious with chocolate. YES ;-)
ReplyDeleteKind regards to you all and thank you for the wonderful photos from Essex.
Hug from Viola
Thank you for your kind words, Viola. It was good to get away for a short break both to see relatives in Essex and to visit St Albans in Hertfordshire. It is dry here today and I have managed to get out in the garden for a while. Enjoy the rest of your week x
DeleteLovely to see you blogging Beverly,, your garden looks a bit like mine I say its Winter Weary! Those cakes look yum and calorific, but we all need that now and then!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chris. Glad to be here again. I'm trying to do a little bit each day, weather permitting in the garden. Today was a chop chop day on some of the straggly shrubs. Tomorrow might be a bit more weeding if the weather and my back hold out. Thinking of you and praying you are Ok x
DeleteI'm pleased that you are feeling better, it's still too cold for me to venture into the garden yet, I have so much work to do including painting the fences but it will have to wait awhile longer. The cookie dough bars look delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, I'm feeling much better.
DeleteI have a few fence panels to repaint too but I need it to stay dry for a few days.
Cookie dough bars were delicious and we can't wait for them to be baked again.
