Indoors and Outdoors

Hello everyone.

The day after we returned from our holiday, we had a special delivery. The very early morning arrival meant we had little time to remove the old sofa and chair before the new one arrived.

We had spent a long time trying to decide on the best seating arrangement to suit our needs. This one has recliners on both ends, along with the single chair. Strangely, at the start of looking, we were sure we didn't want a corner sofa and absolutely no recliners.

It just goes to show how we can change our minds. We are delighted with the furniture and the colour. It is now a fun game to see who drifts off to sleep first.

Meanwhile, in the garden, there has been a lot of hammering, nailing, and sawing long lengths of wood. We have lived in our current house for 23 years, and although the garden is quite large, the paved patio is small in comparison.

We have just never got round to changing the area until a month or two ago. Hubby ordered all the necessary parts, and slowly the decking emerged. It covers a larger area than before, making it a more useful place to eat outside. The other job hubby did was to disguise the pipework on the house's walls behind some wire-mesh fencing.

Since it's finished, we've been eating outside quite a lot! We only have a small table at the moment ( you can see it in the background of pictures 4 and 5, along with a bit of D). We are looking to get a larger table and benches there before the end of the summer.

You can also see a couple of my pots and the raised beds, which have tomatoes, sunflowers, broad beans, and peas, all at various stages of growth. I have lots of planting plans for next year.

And after a lovely meal, somewhere to relax and chill out is required. Just to the left of the decking is our space to do that. Our garden is always very sunny, with very little shade. Hence, the latest shopping trip was to buy the parasol. I think there will be a lot more time spent outside from now on.

I'm picking Sweet Peas most days, and it is lovely to enjoy their scent in the house.

This will be the last crop of rhubarb for this year. I try not to pull any more stalks after Midsummer's Day to allow the plants time to recover for next year. The scales are not very clear, but it shows 1.4 kg of rhubarb.

That's all for now. I hope you have a lovely week ahead, wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

  1. Love your sofa! The colour is beautiful. And that decking is fab, too. I think you have quite warm and pleasant weather in England, so perfect for using the deck.

    1. Thank you for your kind comment Christina. We love our new furniture and if you look back on my posts you can see it fits with the colour we have over the fireplace. We had breakfast out on the decking this morning and then sat under the parasol for a cold drink mid morning. Have a lovely week.

    1. Thank you, Linda. The sofa and chair are just what we wanted and so relaxing. The garden is an even better place to spend time now with the parasol up to give some much needed shade. The rhubarb is probably the best we have had. It now needs to recover and I will give it a good mulch. I hope all is good where you are this week.

    1. Hubby says "Thank you for your kind words about the decking". I know he worked so hard to get it right for us and I am so pleased with the result. It is good to be able to step outside and enjoy the space we have created.

    1. In the evenings, the sofa is perfect to relax in and unwind from the day. Both outdoor spaces have been used this morning already. The rhubarb will be left now but there looks like a large gooseberry crop which will be ready next. I shall be picking them when the heat of the day has gone. Happy sunny week , Rosie.

    1. Yes, the sofa and chair are very bold colours and perfect for relaxing in. After an evening meal I can quite easily see myself dozing off in them. We have already used the parasol as the sun has been very hot this morning. I wouldn't otherwise been able to sit outside for long. I hope you find some shade and enjoy sitting in your garden this week, Chris.

  8. You can't beat a comfy sofa and the colour is gorgeous. I think more people are choosing corner sofas these days, I suppose they make use of all available space and provide additional seating. There was a time when you knew you'd buy a sofa and two armchairs if you were buying a new suite but times have definitely changed. We've got a three seater and a two seater. although we did consider a corner suite when we moved house. The decking looks great, it's nice to get jobs ticked off the list. I think you've bought the parasol at the right time with the weather as it is just now, you'll be able to sit out and enjoy it.

    1. We looked around for ages to find the right sofa. I think we had been put off to start with because of that corner section that is normally quite difficult to use. There are a lot more now that have the curved corner piece which means it can actually be sat on. We bought the parasol last week and I am so glad we did. I shall be spending a lot of time using it with the hot weather this week.

    1. Thank you, Joy. 😊 It is such a blessing to have somewhere comfortable to relax and enjoy being outside without the burning sun turning me into a lobster. Then I can also relax inside in the evening with my feet up before I drift off to sleep. I am a happy and content woman this week

  10. The colour of your new furniture is lovely ... and it looks very comfortable.
I do like your decking ... hard work but very worthwhile.
With all the sunshine we are currently getting I think a parasol is compulsory!

Enjoy your week ... stay as cool as you can and keep hydrated.

    All the best Jan

    1. Thank you, Jan. The new furniture is already getting good use and meals on the new patio are also becoming more frequent. I sat under the parasol yesterday and it made such a difference. I'm glad we had the foresight to go out and buy it before the hot weather that was expected, arrived. Have a good week and stay safe.

  11. The classic 'we definitely don't want that' only to end up absolutely loving it—been there, done that, got the comfy recliner to prove it! And what a whirlwind homecoming—nothing like a 6 AM furniture dash to keep you on your toes! But honestly, that sounds like the coziest upgrade ever. Recliners on both ends AND a matching chair? You've basically built a nap paradise. And now the real competition begins—who's the first to zonk out? My money's on whoever claims the end spot first! 😴🛋️ Enjoy every luxurious minute—you two earned it!"

    1. It is a bit of a heatwave here at the moment. We did however manage breakfast outside and probably dinner this evening. Weather should be back to 'British normal' by next week. It is really nice to be able to use the space more often with the decking down. We are very happy with the result.

  13. I love your furniture, gorgeous color! I am glad you ended up liking your choice. It's always such a big investment and I was often unsure of ours until I had a few days of getting used to it. You deck looks super too and your garden furniture, and garden. I remember we had a trellis full of sweet peas back in my childhood and what a lovely scent they had. Yours looks very pretty the crystal vase. A splendid harvest of rhubarb too. Thanks for a lovely post and enjoy the rest of your week.

    1. Yes, we really love the new furniture and it is the same accent colour as the rest of the house, so it pulls everything together nicely. It is a little too hot for me to sit outside for long this week but when more normal weather returns we shall be making the most of being outside. The sweet peas are blooming more and more each day and their fragrance fills the house when I bring them indoors.
Thank you for all your kind words, they are really appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  14. What a beautiful colour for the sofa — I really love it. It looks so comfortable too, especially with the recliners. I can imagine it is very tempting to drift off there!

Your garden looks wonderful as well. I love all the flowers and the neat, welcoming feel of everything. The new decking must make such a difference, especially for eating outside and enjoying the summer.

    1. Hello Aritha.Yes, drifting off to sleep has been very easy to do with our new sofa and chair. They are so comfortable. Glad you like the colour. I do love being out in the garden too but it has been very hot here this week. We have eaten meals outside and rested in the shade of the parasol at times so the decking has been well worth the money as well. Thank you for your kind words about the garden, it gives me a lot of pleasure growing food and flowers.
I hope you have had a pleasant week and that your weekend will be restful.

    1. The Sweet Peas have been flowering profusely this week despite all the heat and I have been picking them daily. Lots of other fruit and veg are growing well at the moment and I am enjoying them all. Being able to sit outside more often is a real blessing especially with the benefit of the parasol for a little shade. Both hubby and I have fallen asleep on the new sofa so yes it is very cozy and relaxing.
      Have a lovely weekend.
