More Like Spring

Welcome back to our small corner.

March is continuing to be a wet month here, but we are starting to see real signs of spring.

There is a lot of frogspawn in our pond, so we will see baby froglets in a few weeks. I love watching the frogs use our pond because it means fewer slugs around to devour my plants.

Colour is starting to return to plants and flowers around the garden: many already have green shoots and leaves. I missed seeing all the colours over the winter, so I took some photos of the new growth.

The birds are frequent visitors to the garden, and watching them feed is a real joy. As the daylight hours are becoming longer - and next weekend in the UK, our clocks will change to British Summer Time (BST) - we will have more opportunities to watch the birds and enjoy the garden.

I spent the first few days of this week pottering around in the greenhouse, sewing seeds such as basil, zinnia, cosmos, tomatoes and dwarf morning glories. I also planted out some of the onions into a raised bed.

Following our dollshouse adventure last weekend, I started working on a new room. Although we have yet to paint and add flooring and doors, we now have all the main pieces of furniture for the maid's bedroom in the attic. As you can see two young ladies will be sharing a room. D and I will reveal more of the story as it progresses.

Hopefully this next week will see more sunshine than showers but we will have to see about that!

Have a lovely week everyone x

  1. These past few days, although windy, have been more spring-like which is most welcome.
Lovely to see your colourful blooms, this is such a great time of year with everything bursting into colour.

Keep having fun and enjoyment with your dolls house.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

    All the best Jan

    1. It has been lovely to see the start of Spring growth in our garden. It's been a wet start to this week but the rain has eased a little for the moment which means that I could refill the bird feeders. Have a lovely week. D and I will keep you informed about the dolls house progress :-)
      Have a good week.

    1. Spring flowers are such brave little souls especially with the weather we have been having lately. D and I are getting plenty of ideas for the maids room now.
      Have a good week.

  3. You have some pretty flowers in your garden. I'm envious of your frogs and frogspawn. We used to have loads in our pond but not now - it was always so interesting to watch them. We do have lots of newts but I miss the frogs. Have a lovely week ahead:)

    1. We always seem to have plenty of frogspawn in our pond so the frogs must be happy. I would love to have newts but so far they haven't visited us here. I hope you have a good week too x

  4. We've had some lovely spring days over the past week but it's back to rain again here today. Isn't it nice to see the garden come to life again and watch the birds going about their business. They'll be looking for nest sites now, I'm hoping they'll use the bird box we've put in the garden.

    1. Yes, it's rain here as well although it is more drizzle at the moment. I've just filled the bird feeders so I'm sure they will be visiting to see what's on offer. We have a lot of hedging so it is lovely to see the birds flying in and out. They must feel quite safe in there. Have a great week x

    1. Thank you Linda. Yes, both of these hobbies are fun although D has a greater love for the miniatures. Have a lovely week yourself x

  6. You have such lovely spring flowers. We are still under threat of winter. Very cold this morning with a dash of snow on the ground. One daffodil is blooming and the crocus are blooming and that is it. Your maids' room will be fun to finish. Nothing like a good miniature show to rejuvenate the passion.

    1. We have had hardly a flake of snow here this year but plenty of rain. But there is still plenty to see in the garden to brighten the day. When it is too wet outside D and I can carry on with the maids room and a few other finishing details to the rooms we have already worked on. Lots to do. We have another show planned to visit in September. Have a good week.

  7. The plus point is that birds are going to be the frequent visitors when flowers are around.

    1. Thank you for visiting this small corner of ours. We love having the birds visit us and are trying to grow a variety of plants that will encourage wildlife. I should imagine you have lots of lovely plants where you live too.

  8. That’s an added benefit of having frogs that I never thought of, keeping the slug population down. I love to see frogs hopping around. You have a lot of pretty plants and flowers in your garden. I love the birds around here too. Always entertaining me. It will be fun to see your dolls house progress. Have a very enjoyable rest of the week.

  9. Well I'm sure we have fewer slugs but it could also be the amount of gravel we have around the garden. Slugs don't like that either. I will keep you updated on the miniature house front. Enjoy the Easter weekend x
